Műkorcsolya Kézdivásárhelyen Kolarevic Knezevic Petra-val - Patinaj / Figure skating in Targu-Secuiesc

Ismerjük meg Petrát, aki 2 évig volt Belgrádban a szerb nemzeti korcsolya válogatott segédedzője, és már növendékeit készíti Kézdivásárhelyen az idei Román Nemzeti Korcsolya Bajnokságra / Let's meet Petra, who was for 2 years the assistant coach of the Serbian National Skating Team and she is already preparing her new students in Targu-Secuiesc for the Romanian National Skating Championship.

- The beginnings - how did skating started for you?
- I started skating when l was two and a half years old. My mother took me skating on Velesajam ice ring in Zagreb. Her colleague has a daughter who was very famous skater at that time and suggest my mother to take me skating to try.

- ... and what happened since than?
- I did figure skating until l was 14, l competed in younger categories in Croatia. I also did some skating shows. As a competitor in younger categories l won 2 times 5th place on Croatian national championship. When l was 15 l moved to speed skating (short track). ln 1997 l won 3rd place on Croatian championship as senior and become a member of national team. I was a member of national team for 2 years. During that time we went on European championship,we didn't qualify (but it was great experience). In 1999 l started university and finished with competitions. l work as skating coach in Novi Sad. ln 2010 l moved to Belgrade and worked as asitent coach in Serbian national team for 2 years.

- Which were your thoughts when Kezdi came up on the horizon?
- That it's a challenge and opportunity to try to make something in a new environment.

- We've used to call ice skating as national sport in the region bit figure skating might be something new. A new beginning. How did you found the early steps?
- Well, figure skating is a very difficult sport, reguires great dedication and lots of hard work to make something. Here you have some great kids who are very talented and devoted to the sport. l hope this season some of these kids will compete on National championship of Romania and we will see where we are.

- This sounds great 🙂 In this relative short period how little kids are achieving confidence in such a versatile sport, performing body-control with music on ice. Shortly in Kezdi the blades will scratch the ice. How are you preparing for this step ahead?
- We have practices 3 times a week in a gym, two time roller skating one time off ice practice (spins and jumps) and for a weekend we go ice skating for 2 hours.

- This sound exciting for kids having such varied program. There has be a lot of teamwork, challenges and fun 🙂 How is an everyday training?
- Well, the practices are divided into performance group and beginners. In performance group there are kids who do synchronised skating (tipe of figure skating in groups 8 to 16 kids in one group) and kids who do figure skating. Sometimes they have practices together sometimes separate, because basic elements are the same for both types.

- It might be not the easiest to get in such level in a short time settling figure skating. How do you find your progress, where do you get support from?
- I think that the progress is very good if we consider the circumstances meaning that we don't have ice for almost 2 years. I get support from parents who are very involved and devoted, also l get big support from Adolf Lénárt and from this spring we got support from Zarah Modem and Ms. Kinga Bakk-Vitális. So far is going very well.

- It's so good to hear about so many people with good intensions on your side. The first snow already arrived and shortly the skating rink will open it's doors. How do you prepare, how is the winter schedule looks like for the upcoming period?
- There is a problem with the gym, so we don't know when we will start, when the problem is resolved l will know the schedule and when we start.

- If anybody would like the join your training sessions, what would be good to know? Age, skills, equipment, which are the conditions?
- There will be two skating schools. One for the kids under 8 and one for the kids above 8 years. They will have practices two times a week. From the equipment it would be good to have skates, but if not they can rent. Also for younger kids it would be good to have helmet.

Good luck Petra and let's go skating... on ice! :)
